Archer Aviation ACHR is drawing fresh scrutiny from a five-star investor who argues the electric-air-taxi developer's tiny revenue base remains badly mismatched with its heavy spending. The warning puts renewed focus on Archer's cash burn and financing needs at a time when Wall Street still sees substantial upside in the stock.

Archer is developing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, or eVTOLs, aimed at short-distance urban air mobility. The company remains in an investment-heavy phase, meaning most of its current spending is tied to aircraft development, manufacturing capacity, certification and commercialization rather than mature operations.

Motley Fool investor David Jagielski highlighted that imbalance after Archer generated just $5 million of revenue in the second quarter while recording $284 million in operating expenses.

Until that changes, the company will continue to incur heavy losses and burn through a lot of cash, Jagielski wrote.

The concern is straightforward: Archer's commercial opportunity may be large, but meaningful revenue has yet to catch up with the cost of building the business.

Archer has also broadened its ambitions beyond aircraft development, including its acquisition of Hawthorne Airport in California. Those investments could support future operations, but they also add to near-term capital requirements.

Jagielski said the risk-reward profile remains unsuitable for many investors despite Archer's long-term potential.

With its losses mounting and there being plenty of risk, it's not going to be a suitable option for most investors, he wrote.

Still, Wall Street remains considerably more optimistic. ACHR carries a Strong Buy consensus rating based on five Buy ratings and one Hold, while the average $11.60 price target implies roughly 145% upside.

Investor Takeaway

For Archer investors, the key metric is no longer just technological progress. Cash burn, operating expenses and the timeline toward meaningful commercial revenue matter just as much.

The bullish case strengthens if Archer can begin generating material aircraft or service revenue while keeping liquidity healthy. The risk rises if commercialization slips and spending remains near current levels, potentially forcing another capital raise and diluting shareholders.

Investors should therefore watch certification progress, initial commercial deployments and cash balances closely. Until revenue begins scaling materially, Archer remains a high-upside but financing-sensitive bet.
