Archer Aviation Inc. announced Monday it has signed an agreement with PT IKN to deploy an initial fleet of its Midnight aircraft in Indonesia. The country will be the third in which Archer plans to launch Midnight aircraft under its “Launch Edition” program.
PT IKN is an Indonesian company focused on advancing national resilience through innovation in strategic industries, including advanced manufacturing, infrastructure and sustainable technologies. The company partners with government and industry to strengthen local capabilities and support long-term national development.
As with Archer’s other Launch Edition partners, the goal is to establish a pragmatic, repeatable commercialization playbook to deploy Midnight aircraft in early-adopter markets ahead of type certification in the United States. In addition to Indonesia, Archer has announced Launch Edition plans in the United Arab Emirates with Abu Dhabi Aviation and in Ethiopia with Ethiopian Airlines.
The program aims to establish local operational capabilities and launch commercial air taxi services in Indonesia as soon as possible. In addition to passenger transport, Archer and PT IKN plan to explore complementary use cases such as logistics and environmental surveillance, including support for the development of Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN).
The scope of the agreement includes the deployment of an initial fleet of Midnight aircraft along with Archer pilots, technicians and engineers. Archer will also provide backend operational software and front-end booking applications to support the program.
The partners plan to work closely with Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation to develop regulatory frameworks and improve infrastructure to enable the Launch Edition program and safe entry into service. PT IKN intends to order up to 50 Midnight aircraft, with the potential deal valued at up to $250 million, to scale operations following initial deployment.
“At PT IKN, we see enormous benefit in bringing new technologies to Indonesia,” said Yudiansah Yosal, chairman of PT IKN. “Our goal is to deploy Archer’s Midnight aircraft not only for passenger mobility across our many islands, but also for environmental oversight. We’re excited to bring this innovation to Indonesia and to work with Archer to build a sustainable and scalable air mobility ecosystem.”
Maj. Gen. TNI Piek Budyakto, commander of Kodam IX/Udayana, added, “eVTOL aircraft like Archer’s Midnight offer capabilities for both civilian and military applications. In the civilian sector, they can be used for transportation, rescue and logistics. On the military side, they can support medical evacuation, supply delivery and special operations in hard-to-reach areas. The partnership between Archer and PT IKN aligns with our vision for a modern military infrastructure that embraces innovative technologies.”
“The level of demand for our Launch Edition program continues to grow,” said Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein. “Indonesia represents a tremendous opportunity for our Midnight aircraft, with its thousands of islands, booming tourism sector and the development of Ibu Kota Nusantara. We look forward to working together to demonstrate how Midnight can support a wide range of missions across the country.”
