LiBEST is working with unmanned aerial vehicle maker AD System to localize and standardize batteries for stealth drones.
LiBEST said Oct. 8 that the two companies jointly participated in the Capital Seoul Drone and Counter-Drone Challenge held Sept. 29, where they unveiled the battery solution applied to the AD-3000. AD System is a South Korean developer of stealth vertical-takeoff-and-landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The AD-3000 is a reconnaissance stealth UAV developed by AD System. It combines vertical takeoff and landing capabilities with fixed-wing cruising.
LiBEST supplied a battery pack with a capacity of 42 ampere-hours (Ah), a voltage of 40.8 volts (V) and energy capacity of 1,714 watt-hours (Wh) for the aircraft. The battery pack is configured in a 12-series, three-parallel arrangement.
The two companies plan to improve battery performance based on the power requirements for the UAV’s takeoff, landing and cruising operations. They aim to roughly double the aircraft’s mission endurance from its current level.
They will also work to standardize battery mounting methods, connection specifications, and charging and management systems. The companies plan to establish a domestic production and supply base, improve battery replacement and maintenance convenience, and support the operational deployment of UAVs.
LiBEST Chief Executive Officer Kim Joo-sung said the company will work with aircraft manufacturers to localize and standardize key power sources while strengthening capabilities spanning battery production and supply through operational support.
